Our client brought a successful human rights complaint against her former employer and boss for sexual harassment (unwanted text messages), and received approximately $29,500 in compensation, including $12,500 tax free in general damages for injury to dignity, feelings and self-respect.

Jonas McKay is an Associate and practices in the area of employment law litigation, including employment standards and human rights matters.

Jonas has appeared as counsel regularly at Provincial and Supreme Court in British Columbia.  

Some examples of recent cases that Jonas has been involved in are:

  • Representing a senior, long term employee in Supreme Court against his employer’s claim that they had just cause for dismissal 
  • Representing an employee in Supreme Court against her employer’s claim that she had abandoned or resigned from her job
  • Representing an employee in Supreme Court against a claim that she had been constructively dismissed
  • Representing employees in Employment Standards hearings for the recovery of unpaid wages and overtime

Jonas has also assisted clients with the following:

  • Negotiation of settlements in wrongful dismissal actions (senior and short term employees)
  • Negotiation of severance packages (senior and short term employees)
  • Provincial Court and Human Rights Tribunal mediations
